Exclamation about .mkv file

i wanted to know if any of the DVD player in the Indian market support/play a matroska [.mkv] file.
especially those USB DVD Players..

What i intend to do is write a Data DVD containing a .mkv movie file and play it on the DVD Player, will that be possible ?

I do not think any standalone DVD player can handle matroska files. Convert the .mkv file to DivX or XviD or something like that.

Best option would be getting the original source from which the .mkv rip was made and then re-rip it to DivX or XviD.

There is a fare chance of deteriorating quality when re-encoding the .mkv file but I hope the quality will be moreover same if right encoders are used.
