add text on running video

I would like to add text to a 10 minute running video, something like subtitles, but something more professional or customisable

Is there any software in Windows or Linux I can use???

Try Windows MovieMaker
Then re encode it to whatever u want using converting software

Thanks all, let me explain a little more

We have shot a silent video, on which we want to superimpose the lyrics as the band plays/sings. Now it can be done using a subtitler, making an srt, and embedding them as hard subtitles. Just wanted to know if there is a more polished way
