There would be no difference between 1080p and 720p, but there will be a hell lot of difference between a DVD and a 720p HD

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
your monitor can support a max of 720p (1280 x 720 ) only.....DVD is only 640 x something VGA resolution...
so u can see a big difference with 720p...even 1080p will be displayed only as 720p in ur monitor...so better to get 720p for ur system as its low size

my monitor is not hd .then too i will get the difference ?
at present i am running at 1280 x 1024 resolution...
if yes , means my monitor is capable of running 720p hd videos in it true quality as it will play in hd monitor .......or just it will play better the dvd .

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
yes ur monitor will perfectly display upto 720p quality videos...higher than that though ur system supports it,ur monitor wont be able to display them...
dvds have crappy quality compared to these..
just that on a 17" CRT..u'll have a large screen wastage due to wide screen formats of HD...
btw...i too am having same display and full HD capable system

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
Even I have a CRT but 15" so would I be able to make a difference between DVD and 720p. Of course my desktop has all the configuration to play HD stuff like RAM etc. I'm not sure whether I will be able to notice the difference between the two. Please give me some more info on this.

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
yeah of course....thats what is all about HD buddy - the high resolution
and u have to have good contrast, response time and of course good sound output to enjoy all that along with higher resolution
@ajay...you can play videos upto the max resolution supported by ur monitor...more than that your display wont see any difference at all
so u can very well see difference in ur display too

Dude I remember reading in another thread that it wouldn't be able to notice that much difference for this kind of resolution. So I was wondering whether its really worth the difference between a normal DVD and 720p. Will the difference be noticeable? My friend has couple of movies with him with that resolution but I was wondering if it's really worth it coz that's gonna take lot of space of my HDD.

Hey ..
The difference is very viable to naked eyes.
Just compare once.Its enough.
Even on my 17" there's a lotsa difference. But it hogs lots of space.
U pay for that clarity.Dont u ????

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
you guys can download a sample few secs HD video (do a google search) and play it to really see if you would like them or stick with dvd(which is highly unlikely)

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
Not read the complete thread, but it will be guaranteed no difference. I mean, apart from counting the pixels, you won't see any quality difference. You might see difference if you zoom into a widescreen video. But that is only upto 720p. 1080p you can forget about.

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
there is a huge diff between DVD and 720p clips. but not much diff between 720p and 1080p clips on a 17" CRT display. 108p is more suited for larger displays upwards from 22"

Here's a little chart that should help you decide on what exactly makes the difference when it comes to HD.

TV Resolution is 720x480. So HD vs DVD would not be THAT visible on a TV.

Dude I didnt understand your statement where you mention difference is very viable to naked eyes. Can you elaborate further? Even goobimama is telling the same thing as I had mentioned that there is no clear difference

Re: any difference between 1080p video and dvd watching on a normal 17 inch samsung c
I have watched the Elephant's dream and some movie trailers in HD. It definitely looked better than normal DVD especially Elephant's dream but I have not yet watched a full length HD movie on my PC. Maybe I should try watching a movie then I will know.

Yes I was talking about 720p vs. DVD.
I have a few 720p and DVD videos .... On comparing there was hell of a difference.
And 720p was way better.
Just checkout few of the .mkv songs(HD ones) ... They are always better than DVDRIPS.
I also checked out 1080p on my 17" ...
But the quality was not noticeable.
But the same videos looked fantastic on my friend's Samsung 19" one.

Surely it can.
8 years old.
I thought in 2000's 15" was only available.
