Default Windows XP Trouble In Dell Laptop

I have a Dell Latitude series laptop
(Core Duo ,1GB RAM,Windows XP)
I installed Crystal XP(theme modifier) long back..recently it got affected by adwares & viruses

Now I cannot activate automatic updates,I cannot activate it even in Control Panel.
Besides that due to some non-microsoft kernel I'm not able to install SP3..

Lastly I have a problem with the Network connection...
When I disconnect the wire connecting the LAN & Laptop without disconnecting the connection in Windows the system hangs.Even the mouse stops to move.I can connect to Internet also..Only when the connection breaks due to loose connection or something it hangs.

Please Restart the Computer in Safe Mode with Networking and run an Online Virus Scan with www.ewido.net

Automatic Updates Itself Turns off and on, It's Very Common issue with Viruses. Go to Start-run-services.msc Check the Status of Automatic Updates if it's disabled, Instead of Setting it to Automatic , Select Manual there, Also keep an eye on AU Service once you restart the Computer.
