Default boot problem


my computer may be infected with some virus.
i was using avast 4.8.maybe the virus is not there but a black screen is coming....nothing after that. it has affected some hardware portion.
now i want to format my system but after putting my bootable cd and booting,just a black screen is coming. nothing after that.
linux live cd is performing absolutely ok,
i tried with 2 xp bootable cd...but the result is the same.

plz guide me to solve this problem as soon as possible

Why do so many people use Avast!! It is a wimpy antivirus!!! Use Kaspersky AntiVirus or ESET NOD32 AntiVirus!

Not as well. I recommend you buy a antivirus. They work better but just stay away from Norton. Bad reviews.
Did you try safe mode or something like that? usually safe mode works like a charm. What kind of black screen? I think your system is corrupted or something. Format the hard drive and start over with the installation CD.
