Default Fedup with low speed airtel GPRS!!!

Hi,
I am using Airtel Gprs connection in my SonyEricsson W300 EDGE phone,i use XP,using pc suite i connect to net.i set my baud rate to be 921kbps,i am living in a area which is EDGE enabled. The problem i am facing is very slow browsing and downloading speed(1-3kps),where as with same phone and same connection i get my download speed to be 7-12kbps.i called up Airtel Customer care, they replied no problem in their side.. i ve two question!!
1.Wat is optimum baud rate to be set?
2.wat happened to net speed which i get two weeks before?
(i use AVG8.0 with updates so i think there no chance of malware or any trojan)
Thanks in Advance,

Try closing all the programs which may connect to the internet(including AV updater, avg updater including firewall) and then see what speed you get? Once It happened with me that Comodo Firewall was reducing the speed to 3-4kbps and on closing it, speed used to become normal.

Talking Re: Fedup with low speed airtel GPRS!!!

Since you are using mobile to connect to internet, so one reason could be because of the weather. To strengthen the signal go around the house and try to find a place with the strongest signal. If you are using bluetooth, change it to data cable to connect your mobile with your PC.
Another important reason could be because your mobile is now catching signals from a tower which has weaker capacity. Therefore, you are not getting same speed as before.Try to turn your mobile into diferent directions to find the tower with the strongest signal.
And most important of all:MAKE AN ANTENNA TO TRIPLE YOUR SIGNAL.
Once you find the "right location and direction", your speed is bound to increase as I have also applied these tricks and my speed has remained constant almost throughout the day(and night as well).

Belive me for once try uninstalling AVG and run your browser, if you are getting the same low speeds, then try what HOK said. I told you this because AVG 8 has a WEB SHIELD feature, which scans the opened website in AVG and then it shows the webpage, making it too slow, or else try other browser like Firefox or Mozilla.

there could be three reasons for ur problems according to me
1.Virus/Trojan on ur PC or ur Phone which eats up processing time/network usage
2.Connectivity issues(i have used Airtel GPRS services myself for some time on my PC..and it really gets slow sometimes)....u may be getting less bandwidth due to increased load in ur area or signal strength may be low on ur phone. or there may be some issues on the server @airtel
