Question Firewall Problem

My sys config
P IV 1.6 , 256+128 MB SDRAM , 128 MB GEFORCE 5500 , 40 HDD , DVD WRITER.

Softwares insatalled :
Win XP SP2 , AVG Free edition 8.0.101 , Zonealarm firewall 7.0.470...

I hav Lan connection on my system as well as a dailup connection, but i mostly use Lan connection .
Recently it was wrking fine but frm yesterday there is a problem in lan connection .
Today d lan provider send a guy 2 repair my connection , who seeing the connection not wrking (but it was pinging) first uninstalled my AVG Antivirus , but it didn't worked ,den he disabled zonealarm firewall , the connection immedeatly worked ..
Now i hav insatlled Avg back again the connection works but with zonealarm has 2 be disabled ..
Wid zonealarm enabled lan doesnot wrks , which was not the case two days ago...
Even wid zonealarm enabled lan used to work.....
The repair guy told me u hav to disable 2 zonealarm 2 use lan ....
May i know d exact problem y Lan has suddenly stoped wrking wid zonealarm...
And if again how can i get lan to work wid zonealarm...
I hav even tried my dailup connection , same problem there aswell.......

Pls help me as firewall is a critical part of the system & i dont want 2 browse internet without a firewall...........
