Need Photo DVD Creation Software

I have shot a lots of pics( Nearly 500+) in the last 7 days.
I want to make a photo DVD out of them. I will be gifting it to my close friends.

The DVD should be playable in normal CD/DVD players. I will be adding transitional effects, subtitles, background music. Which software will let me do all this?

Can Picasa do this?

use nero showtime to add the effects and make a video of those pictures. burn them onto the DVD. or u cud use windows movie maker.

Also suggest one for Ubuntu, if possible.

Try ACDSee Photo Manager 10.0, it creates slide shows, creates DVD & VCD and much more.
