Remote Desktop doesnt work :(

OS is Win XP SP3
Remote desktop doesnt open, can anyone help?

I tried to download the new version from download.microsoft.com but during during the installation, it says that I already have a newer version installed and doesnt proceed with the installation

Are there any alternatives or does someone know how to make this work?

What happens when you run Start > Run > Mstsc {Press Enter} ....???

I guess Remote Desktop is not there in Home edition ... So check your version too by pressing Winkey + Pause ..

The cause of problem is sp3.
it works for me and you can also try it.
1. restart in safe mode and unhide hidden folders from folder options.
2. goto: c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$ and locate for these files:
1. mstsc.exe
2. mstscax.dll
copy both.
3. goto: c:\windows\system32 and paste them here.
4. restart again in normal mode.
5. goto>run and type "mstsc" without quote and click ok to check your remote desktop program client.

Try to google for problems associated with RDP v6.0 which is bundled with Windows XP SP3.
The RDP in Windows XP SP2 is 5.1.
