Forgot Root Password!!

I am completely newbie to Linux, I forgot the root password for my Ubuntu 8.04 distro, Is there a way to get it?

well, there is no root password for ubuntu ,only local user and his/her password

you can reset password using recovery mode option in grub.

if it is not present ,add the line "rw init=/bin/bash" at the end of grub's kernel /boot/... line by replacing "ro quiet splash" .

anyways first try recovery mode.

Thank You, and if this means a regular user is a root user and he can enjoy all the privileges of a root user in Ubuntu ?
