please help me how to backup

Hi plz help me out how to back up my whole operating system which is installed in c drive and lot softwares,if i get any error are virus infect i must format the system and again i must install all the softwares which i cant do,so one of my friend told we can backup using norton ghost so any bady can help me out.

to back up :

1 download Hiren Boot Disc
http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

2 burn to cd

3 insert the disc and boot from cd rom

4 select Disk Partitioning Tools

5 select Norton Ghost

6 select Partition > to image

7 select the partition you want to back up

8 select destination to store the image (backup)

9 wait till it complete

to restore :

1 boot using the disc u burnt

2 select Disk Partitioning Tools > Norton Ghost

3 select Partition > From Image

4 select the image u created before

the drive u want to back up and the location of the backup file cannot be same
ie. if u backup C, then save the backup to different drive
