comodo firewall- C:\windows\explorer.exe has tried to use iexplore.exe

I am using comodo firewall pro version 2.4.18.184. I keep getting this message very often, "C:\windows\explorer.exe has tried to use iexplore.exe through OLE automation, which can be used to hijack other applications, explorer.exe might be using iexplore.exe to connect to the internet." I invariably allow the process to connect to internet without understanding its implication. Why would explorer try to connect to internet using iexplorer? If I deny this, then internet explorer gets blocked. Is it safe to allow internet explorer to allow explorer.exe to connect to internet?

explorer.exe is the Windows Program Manager or Windows Explorer. It manages the Windows Graphical Shell including the Start menu, taskbar, desktop, and File Manager. By removing this process the graphical interface for Windows will disappear. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer. it does not requre net connection.
