problem of connecting bsnl broadband by mandriva linux spring 2008

hello every body..
i have installed mandriva linux 2008 spring..
but can not connect throug the BSNL broadband by it..
previously i ve used pclinux 2007 it has no such problem..
can u tell me how can i?
the line is ok..
it is connecting through xp..
i ve tried with dsl connection setting with pppoe..

is this true friend i am planning to install mandriva first time. Earlier Fedora had no such problem.

i ve problem of bsnl broadband..
it is detecting my modem..
i ve done ..
ifconfig eth0..
it showed that my network card is running..
i ve entered the bsnl linux client..
after configuring..
it is telling that ..
"link is down(can't read pppoe PID file/var/run/pppoe.conf-pppoe.pid.pppoe)......
adsl connection is failed..
now can u help me my friend

ok drsubhadip i think i got the solution. Today i have installed mandriva and also ran the bsnl broadband. After installation when you restart the computer and log on first time then you will get screen whether you want to configure dsl or ethernet or any thing else. At that time you should connect your dsl router with usb. wait for a minute or two then select dsl and click ok or next. then select your dsl modem and click next. then enter your user name and password and click ok. now your dsl broadband has been configured. then you can now connect.

not the free..
and i m connecting through lan..
is that u can connect through.usb or .i ve to use usb..
can u connect through lan?

welcome my friend that's my pleasure.i am also using mandriva spring one 2008 supplied by digit this month. i am connecting through usb. U can use lan also. just you hav to select your ethernet card instead of selecting dsl. Can u tell me how can i access and change the files on root partiotion through gui.

HELLO evryone . actually i am new on linux and this community can u PLZ tell which is better destro PC LINUX 2007 . UBUNTU 8.04 .How to installl BSNL broadband on each of these ? i hve UT300R2U Modem . Hope to get reply soon .

I haven't tried pc linux . but instad of ubuntu i will recommend fedora or mandriva.

better to use pc linux 2007..
as ur modem will be configured automatically..
so no problem for internet connection..
for ubuntu u ve to install pppoe client from bsnl web sight ..
then have to install it..
then only can use the net..

Recently i have installed the Mandriva spring 2008..I have bsnl combo plan connection...I have configured the internet and it is working fine for me...
to configure internet i used the following steps....
first select configure your computer from menu > tools > system tools > configure your computer
now select network and internet option on the left side of the window
click setup a new network interface
select the dsl
select isp as india > any
then choose the ppo over ethernet option
next step is to configure the ip
select the manual configuration of ip ( please choose the ip address) also i choose the gateway as the ip of the modem that is 192.168.1.1. also the dns as 192.168.1.1
click next
and also ask u to start ur connection at startup or to start manually..
choose any option as you like..
after this please restart ur system

after these steps my internet connection was running perfectly..

i dont knw what the problem could be because i used BSNL(using lan) on my Mandriva spring 2008 install perfectly..

If you dont know, don't give wrong information.
In Ubuntu.........open terminal(Like Dos promt)
and type pppoeconf........enter necessary
info and you are connected.
to start connection pon-dslprovider and to stop connection
poff........that is it.[this is for those connected thru lan]
