Default ubuntu on a pen drive

I have a laptop with vista home edition and want to install ubuntu on it. But I am afraid of doing so , as firstly I don't want ubuntu to take up my hard disk space as I've got a lot of games and software on it which will run only on vista and secondly I don't want to get into the hassles of trying to install and uninstall ubuntu if I'm dissatisfied. So what I thought of was this, to install ubuntu on a separate 4 gb pen drive. I'd like to know if this is possible. If yes, can u please provide me a link to install the latest version of ubuntu on a pen drive?

Thanx.

Hes asking you , why you would want to go through the hassle of putting it on a Pen drive when you could just put in the Live CD and try it out or Install Virtual Box and try it out. If you use Virtual Box then it will take space on your drive though. however Im nto sure if you could place the Virtual Drive on the USB stick. Also if you just use the Live CD then you could try it out with no space lost however it will be quite slow I think.

yes!! I just installed ubuntu 7.10 on my laptop using virtualbox. it wrks gr8 and is not slow at all. Also not much space was taken. the only problems are I can't get ubuntu to match my screen resolution of 1280 x 800 and also I can't seem to share my folders between vista and ubuntu.

Dude
u could have tried Wubi,
it is on he 7.10 cd already, it will create an entry in ur bootup menu .
go here for more info :http://wubi-installer.org/
some quotes from the site itself
Quote:
Wubi is Simple

No need to burn a CD. Just run the installer, enter a password for the new account, and click "Install", go grab a coffee, and when your are back, Ubuntu will be ready for you.
Quote:
Wubi is Safe

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi is spyware and malware free, and being open source, anyone can verify that.
Quote:
Wubi is Discrete

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.
Quote:
Requirements

Memory 256 MB memory

Harddisk Space 5 GB harddisk space

Operating System Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista
this will be THE BEST BET

see its screenshots here: http://wubi-installer.org/screenshots.php

ps:BEWARE IT WILL RUN 15-20% SLOWER THEN A REAL INSTALL, BUT SHOULD WORK MUCH FASTER THEN UR VIRTUALBOX ONE
