it wont be dual boot, but i think it will be Quad-boot
1) Install XP First 2) Install 98 First 3) Install Vista First For Quad Boot, Install Windows 98,Then XP then Vista and in the last install Linux

Microsoft always recommended to install earlier version of windows first. So,
win98-->> XP -->> vista

Ya I too think Windows xp is followed by Vista.I think if you want an information regarding the up gradation you should follow this advice mentioned above or if you want to install operating system on your machine then you may go with any of the system but you are looking for purchasing a system then better go with XP only because vista though advanced in its GUI features but not of any use.

I recommend this...
Main OS: Vista Use VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC to install 98, and XP You need some good memory and fast processor though But you need not reboot your comp a lot, saves time
