Default Urgent.... Service Pack 2 CD inserted even though error was there

PLZ Help me..... That is urgent.....

I let you know my query step by step. Please help me to resolve my problem..... It's urgent....

--> I have installed windows XP Pro 2002 with Service Pack 2. And it was running well but one day my all three physical drives (DVD ROM, DVD Writer, and CD writer with Nero Image Drive) got disappeared. All the three drivers of the drives installed but there was (Error Code 41) that " Your drive is not connected". However, from DOS I can run the setup from those drives but after Windows open there was no drive.

--> Then I thought to disconnect and reconnect all the cables. I have done that twice but .... That is of no use. Nothing Happened.....

--> Then today I thought to run Windows XP setup again.

--> I have run setup and hit F8 when asking for to be agree or disagree with EULA. (Note: I have not select the step of Automated System Recovery by hitting F2 or repair at first screen but there is again option to repair XP PRO after the screen "Install Windows XP" that i have selected. That delete some files and started to Copy files and after that system rebooted. And there is one Box that has message like this.....

The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professinal Service Pack 2 CD is needed

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK

Copy files from:

This above is the message ......

And in the command line there was root like .....

GLOBALROOT\Device\CDROM2\i386

[Even there was no option for browsing.... (location)]

I have inserted my both Service Pack 2 CD and DVD but nothing happen... I have again tried to run setup but same box was there each time.

{ Now, I dont want to install fresh copy because my data i have not moved before to another partition}

And yes.....

There is System Setup Log..... That Is Like Below....

Error:

[C:\windows\system32\sfc_os.dll] is not signed properly by Microsoft.
This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version.
Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file.

It looks like you have customized copy of xp and it is not customized properly..............so try installing from untouched copy of xp or well customized.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to throw a solution up here that I had not found elsewhere that has worked for me. I messed around with this for a while trying the regedit and using different disks to no avail. Since I don't have the ability to place another disk drive on the HP Pavilion Laptop that I am reparing windows XP Pro on I found that his worked for me. What you will need is an external enclosure for your hard drive. I placed the laptop hard drive in one of those hooked it up to another computer and copied my I386 folder straight to that hard drive and everytime it looked for a file in that folder I just directed it to c:\I386 that way you don't have to worry about your disk drive not being read, because everything is on the hard drive. Hope this helps someone out there!
