Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
So then are there any larger disks that you can burn more than 800mb or whatever? As in large cd disks?

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
no.......
try compressing mp3s to 64kbps, to fit about 340-400 songs in a disk. be warned some cd players read only 100 mp3 files in a single folder.....

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
dont do that 64kbps is shitty FM radio quality
you are better off buring more cds than reducing the mp3 quality

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
as this has been already discussed, converting an mp3 (lossy) codec between bit rates degrades its quality even more, the process transcoding. its better to stick to whatever you have and burn it to a cd if you have cd player and be contended if you intend for quality.
after all, a cd was available for 6-11 Rs arnd 2 yrs back. (i havn't purchased a cd since then! )

yes I agree it does degrades the quality but if done correctly the loss is virtually non traceable by human ears (and that was the whole point of MP3 when invented at the first place) plus the advantage of getting 10 times more data then a conventional CD make it even more worth.

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
just recommending is different from getting personal gains from that recommendation...
just because an affiliate program is free to join, affiliate/referral links cannot be justified...
for eg. can I put a bux.to affiliate link here just because its free to join ?

It is possible if your dvd player can read a standard known as "DVD mp3". This is because DVD players are programmed to only search for video the moment a DVD is detected.

ok I am a bit confused, you want to create an audio CD or an MP3 CD. If its an MP3 CD why would you want it to re compress to more degraded 64Kbps quality............whats your specific purpose
Also let me know the source song format and what would you want your destination format to be.........
One more thing you can not encode a song to 64kbps w/o loosing the quality, the moment you compress (to whatever bitrate) you loose quality. Now its up to you how high you keep the bitrate. (higher bitrate, better quality but larger in size....)

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
there are softwares available with which u can put in mp3 songs on a DVD and play it on any DVD player. I played around with those long back. however i stopped becos all softwares were paid ones.
what these softwares do is actually make a Video DVD without the video due to which any DVD player can read it.
just search for "music DVD creator"

Re: Can you burn music files on a DVDR ?
First, i'd like to say thanks for the feedback
Now, what i'm looking to do is put as many songs onto a cd as i can to play on a CD player. If i can put more than the standard 10-18ish songs i'd like to do that without degrading the quality (if possible) but i'm a reasonable guy, so as many good/decent quality songs as i can onto a CD so i can play it on a cd player. That's my purpose.

The only way you can have more songs on a CD is by compressing them to MP3, but your CD player should be able to read MP3 format. In which case you can also go and buy LOAD n LOAD of MP3 cds available in the market.
If your CD player cannot read MP3 then the only way to play on your conventonal CD player is to have them on the CD in regular CD format (CDA) which is wave (wav) in computer terminology.
Now to have say aroung 30-40 songs on a CD the only way is to degrade the quality of an MP3 (which is already degraded to some extent). What you need to do is pick your MP3s with say 128Kbps Bitrate and convert it to wave format, using an application that can let you choose/change the bitrate (best is dBpoweramp). When you will convert your MP3 using dBpoweramp you can opt to change the bitrate,( I'd say the least acceptable result would be 44Khz 8 bit stereo which come out to be around 86kbps) This conversion would increase the size of you MP3 to 4 times, which is 6 times less than the usual conversion size we people opt for (10 times is what we target when we compress an audio rip to MP3)........well coming back......... so 4 times would make a song of 5 minutes which is uaually 5 MB in size to around 20MB. You can now pack approx 35 songs on a 700 MB CD. Remember you got to use Nero (or any burning s/w for that matter ) to create an audio CD with all the songs (in wav format) you have just converted....
Hope this helped a bit.........
