What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
I have tried Convert X to DVD to convert an AVI file to a DVD. However I'm unable to get the subtitles in the end result. What option or what setting should I use so that I get subtitles in the resultant file? I don't see any option in Convert X to DVD where it takes .srt file so that we get subtitles in the resultant DVD file output. Is there any other software that can get the subs in the final DVD output? Please help.

Are you able to add subs as well. I'm able to convert from AVI to DVD but I need the Subs built in the output DVD file.

ya, subtitles also works with DVD, or VCD. But in DVD, subs will be merged with the title, as a result, there will be no option to on/off the subs. It will be always on.

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
Ok buddy , here are the steps which I take while creating the DVD, also the application u are using is the best out there for creating DVDs
STEP 1. Open the application and load the file. It looks something like below screenshot. Note there are "0" stream under subtitle.
STEP 2 : Right click on subtitle and select "ADD SUBTITLE CHANNEL". Remember to select the SRT or SUB file for subtitles. I have all my subs in SRT format.
STEP 3 : After selecting the subtitles, you should see 1 stream added under subtitle
Thats it!, you can probable choose to edit the format for subs, like changing the font, size, color etc. Usually I leave it to deafult except changing the color to pale yellow, which come out to better than plain white.
After that "Convert" and you will have the subs, and yes I read somebody saying that we can not toggle the subs on and off, ofcourse we can do. While playing thorugh VLC, right click and choose subtitle track, there you should see the ENG track listed. While playing on DVD player remember to switch on the subs if at all they are not appearing. Check out the below screen shot for 50 First Date which I converted to DVD using convertx.
Subtitles clearly appearing.
I hope I was of some help.......Any questions ....... would love to answer......

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
Dude! I tried the steps mentioned by you but the titles are not coming in the output file. I'm able to get the movie converted from AVI to DVD but there are no subtitles showing at the bottom of the screen! I tried the steps 3-4 times with nothing positive happening.

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
What is the extension of the subtitle file? Does it play the subtitle when you play with divx file with say, direct vocsub or trying to play using VLC with the subtitles?
Could you post the screen shot of every step you do as Sam9s has posted here?? May be we can verify it that way?

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
I have two files .IDX and .SRT. I have tried adding both of them while converting. I didnt try direct vocsub. But when I play the AVI file in VLC player and then drag the srt file into VLC player I can see the titles.

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
IDX is usually required for .SUB extension. Its not necessary for .SRT to my knowledge. But its only by observation.
Could you post your step screenshots?

ok what happens when you play the DVD files using VLC, also if you right click on VLC and select subtitle track, what do you see. You should find the subtitle track listed there if the AVI was correctly converted to DVD with subs.....

The easiest way to capture the screen is to press the pintscreen (it captures whatever is currently on the screen) and save the file as Jpeg using paint. Then upload the image on any image hosting site like www.tinypic.com or Imageshack. Once you upload the image to the host site you will get a URL link which if you past here in your post, will reflect the image you uploaded. You can upload as many images as you like on these sites, there is no limit on to this.

Ok right out of bat I noticed the application log saying "Skipping subtitle file ::Reason empty or unsupported format" for both idx and srt format. Friend are you sure you are using the correct/valid SRT file. I will attach mine when I reach home try converting with that and see if it works out......
Also why are there 2 SRTs.... loaded both for Eng, should be one, second dont load both SRT and IDX simultaniously, either user SRT or IDX. (though I am not sure what difference would that make..)

Re: What software do I need to convert AVI to DVD with subs?
ok ajay I am attaching my SRT file for shutter, try creating the DVD with this SRT file. Also before that make sure the SRT is in sync with your AVI file. If they are out of sync then refer my below post in order to ealily sync subs with AVI......my below post also has an attached guide for the same.....
