Default People using Maya 3DMax,pls help me with my p.c upgrade and my homemade renderfarm..

hi people
i have to work on softwares like Maya,3dsmax,after effects, premiere etc.
but right now mainly on Maya.
i am thinking of upgrading my system.and i assume it will cost around 20-25k at least.

but the problem is that i upgraded my system 3 years back which cost 24k then.
my config is intel 2.8gz P4 with H.T,915GAV intel orignal mobo,1.75gb of ram,80gb sata hdd, sony dvd writer. i do not have a graphic card but i do have a slot for pci express.
now if i sell my system i will get rs3000-4000 max.
which i think is unfair.
i think it is not a good idea to sell my system for such a low price.

so i have an idea and this is what i need all your help on-
i was wondering if i can connect my existing cpu with the new cpu so that the rendering load can be shared by the two systems and hence the time to render will decrease!!!!!!
so tell me is this possible-connecting two systems to share the load of softwares like Maya,3dsmax,after effects, premiere etc.

i also need help to configure a system under 25k please suggest.and please tell me will the performance gain be worth it.

thank u.

Get a Quadcore processor first. If you are a full time maya artist, get a quadro fx, atleast 1500.

Regarding HDD, you must set with RAID. RAM 2GB is enough, if you are not on HD/64bit OS.

Avoid using your existing system in parallel as its P4 only. If you can use two quadcores.

For 25k, Upgrade your Proc and Graphics card now. Do not buy any 8xxxx or 9xxxx series cards now(no Video overlay). Buy a quadro or stick with 79xx

In addition to above comment I would like to add my own experience.
3DStudio Max in particular needs a lot of RAM while Maya requires better CPU. Both require a good graphics card for rendering.
So decide what you are going to use the PC for. Anyways RAM is very cheap now so you can buy 2 GB for Rs.1800 now.
But the most pricey thing is CPU. If you go with Quad core then it will be future proof. But then its cost is main concern.
You need a very good graphics card. You can with the above suggestion.
Also if going for quad core you have only one choice of Intel as AMD is still struggling with providing a good quad core processor.

We can make a shared rendering system in both Max and Maya... which is called netrendering in Max i believe... we can use as many machines to render that

This is an article on extreme tech titled 'Build your own render farm'. It answers your other question of being able to connect 2 or more of your systems to use their combined power for editing/rendering.

Yup, it is possible. Use Cube or Backburner. This is called render farming.

Are you a student?

I would recommend what I am using right now as my workstation.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
Intel DG31PR motherboard
2 GB DDR2 667 RAM - Rs 1800
Radeon HD 3650 graphics card. This card helps in GPU assisted encoding due to AVIVO in Premiere & After Effect. - Rs 5,000

I don't know about the current prices, so if you can still buy things then go for Intel DG33TL & Core 2 Duo E8200 CPU.

GPU helps in Viewport only, that's it. In case of Maya there is some sort of GPU assisted rendering but that works only with Quadro or FireGL cards

and what's the problem in using a p4 with quadcore??
and using 2 quadcores entirely depends on how much one quadcore will cost me.so do u have any idea how much a quadcore would cost?
