Unhappy Problem playing HD files

Hi friends. i recently acquired the Lord of the rings triolgy in HD. they are in .mkv format. im having trouble playing them. the video is choppy and goes out of sync with the audio and lags a lot at times. my config would be p4 2.52 GHz and 512 MB ram with an onboard 64MB card. the description of the mkv files goes like this:
Quote:
Releasname: The.Lord.Of.The.Rings.Return.Of.The.King.2003.720p .HDTV.x264-THOR
File Type: mkv
Video: x264 4 Mbit/s
Audio: English DD 5.1 384 Kbit/s
is there any way possible i could play them without any issues. much appreciated, thanks.

hmm..i thought they all were encoded with DTS audio!
Anyways, did you try playing in media player classic with FFD codecs? And what about VLC? Look, if both these players are unable to render the screen and audio properly then ur hardware is incapable to play HD video format. Processor is fine, though try increasing the RAM to 1GB and adding a entry level GPU like 7300GT or 7600GS ! I think, ur mobo should have AGP 8X slot...right?

512MB should allow to play 720p, where as problem would be with VGA GMA 900 / 865 / 845 / older VIA Chipset wont allow the play back
