how to remove gaps from mp3 files(beginning and end)?

1. is there a way to automatically remove the trailing and leading gaps from a song in mp3 format....and doing it for multiple files at once.....

2..also is there a way to batch convert multiple mp3s from any higher bitrate to 128kbps..44100Hz.....

You can use the software mpTrim to do that Use dbPowerAmp for all conversions. I find it quite good.

Audacity is an open source software your 1st requirement, but I am not sure if it has batch functionality for your 2nd requirement.
