automatic reboots!!

i have a p4 2.06ghz with 256 ddr on a his motherboard. win xp is loaded with sp2 on a 40 gb hdd. recently, after few minutes of working, the pc automatically reboots. i checked for loose contacts and found none. checked the temp and showed up as 42 and 38 degrees cel. on local diode and remote diode respectively. what can i do to address the problem? also, after rebooting i get a message saying critical error had occurred and asks me to send a feedback!! HELP....

ok does it say any error b4 rebooting??

download the STINGER and run it from a secure location.. if it finds any errors then let it fix it..

Maybe you have set your system to auto restart after error.

Do this

Go to My Computer(right click)>>Advanced>>Startup and Recovery>>System Failure
Uncheck the Automatically Restart button and click OK.

Now check what error you get instead of a restart. Post that error here and maybe we can help you in much better way.
Please post HijackThis log file and do all that bharathbala2003 said.

as far as i can see the below are to be fixed..

but then u haven posted the full file of HijackThis.. there are still parts that needs to be placed.. so place the whole report before u can really solve the problem..

should be running from system32 folder
so check that

Poor power supply and loose connections are the MAJOR causes for restarts...................
Unexpected restarts may lead to critical errors............
But here are geeks out here............... So they may help...........

Hi
the problems can be several, the following are few u can try out

1. High CPU Temperature- Can be ruled out as per ur posting
2. Windows currupt : Can try reinstalling windows, restoring to earlier point, try with spyware removal programmes, check for virus
3. Faulty SMPS
4. Faulty Mother Board- Check for any bulging of the parts on the mother board.
5. Faulty UPS- Connect the PC directly to the mains and try.

but this is the entire list which hijackthis is showing in notepad!!!!! and as for reinstalling, i have already reinstalled 3 time in the last 2 weeks.......man, does win xp suck or what!

You do have a Trojan. Download and install TrojanHunter and run it and click Full Scan. Fix all the Trojans/Malwares it may show up.

But to fix it completely, we need HijackThis log. Do this:-
Run HijackThis, and click the button Do a System scan only. After it scans the System, then click Save Log button and give it a name and save it.
Then open the LOG file in WordPad or MS Word and not NotePad, and go to Edit Menu (or WordPad or MS Word), click Select All and then click Copy. Then paste it in your post.
