Wierd Internet Connection Problem
i've to do this everytime, after restarting modem, to browse.
(step by step process  )
=> 1)
=> 2)
=> 3)
=> 4)
=> 5)
i'm on Vista, experiencing this problem since yesterday.
no software/driver installed/un-installed since weeks.
i'm using WiFi Modem (UT STAR WA3002G4).
happens on desktop (connected to modem with cable), laptop (wireless) not affected.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
well, i did configure the router, but after that it was working fine.
do i have to put something in that box?
[Configure the second IP Address and Subnet Mask for LAN interface ]
What the BSNL noobs did was create a Dial-up in Windows, which created a problem - at the same time Desktop & Laptop cant access internet.
this is why i configd the router, (put the IP addrs, user name & p/w)
i'm fed with this crap.
should i delete the networks or reset the router?

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
@S18000RPM, Are you using McAfee Suite or Comodo firewall 3 ? These things are bound to create errors in Vista.
I was also facing the same problem with the same modem you have for BSNL BB. It is the firewall that is not setting access to the all computers connected with 192.168.1.1. I can discuss it further but first you confirm if you have the quoted security programs.

It is confirmed that McAfee engine CAUSE some problems in Vista networking. Google for it and check.
@s18000rpm, I think u do not have to change some port settings if the same settings work in Windows XP.
Check if the Local Lan Connection is fully enabled to use all the computers connected in that network.

I meant that if the default router settings work on XP then it will work fine without any changes in Vista, you do not need to change the router settings at all.
Also disable IPv6 and retry. IPv6 could be the culprit.

It is a preset key that is distributed to the users of Wi Fi equipments to securely join in a Wi Fi network with the key as password.
But it is not needed on PPPoE connection like BSNL BB. It is meant for Wi Fi only.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
Lets clear somethings, s18000rpm.
First of all there are IPv6 support in Vista. And to disable the OS support for IPv6, go to Network and Sharing Center, go to the broadband connection panel there and select 'view status', then select properties and after that select Networking tab. From the list there, please uncheck IPv6 and click OK. These will disable the IPv6 in Vista.
You are using Hamachi for some reasons as I see from your N&S Center screenshot. But I cant see the Local Area Connection there. I think LAN is not properly configured in your machine as well. Also the broadband connection should be on a Private Network for enabling all the ips on the same network.
See my screenshot for a working connection in Vista :
I am confused with your options as I do not understand if you want a internet connection via Wi Fi or PPPoE. Please clarify them.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
thanks.
disabled IPv6.
hamachi (LAN over internet), i'm using it for gaming .
on desktop, i want PPPoE (as no wi-fi in desktop).
i'l be more clear.
As i have desktop & a laptop, i want to config the router as such that only these two (desktop & laptop) can access internet thru it. [laptop via wireless]
say if some guy comes with his laptop, he shouldn't be able to connect to this router.

Then you have to select a pass key for your Wi Fi router and Laptop. It can be done via router settings page on 192.168.1.1

I am curious because LAN connection should appear on the N&S center. Which LAN card are u using ? Is it a onboard one ? Uninstall it via Device Manager and reinstall. You should get a confirmation window saying that Windows has found a new network. Assign private network to it. Then select 'Setup a new connection' from N&S center and you will find the only option to be a PPPoE if u do not have some dial up modem installed. Set up the PPPoE and connect using it. After connecting successfully, windows will also ask for confirmation to set up the Network type. Select private (Home or Office) from there.
Now go to start menu>Network and there you can add a wireless device from the top menu. Add your Laptop from there and share the connection.
Also as you are wanting a Always on connection from DATAONE, u have to make some changes in the router page. Check in the internet tab on router config page and select the connection as PPPoE from Bridge Mode. Enter ur username and password and save the settings. Now u can have the always on internet by just switchin on the router. The bridge mode is used to connect to internet when the connection is triggered from Windows.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
the problem got solved (i guess ), i changed the network type to Private & now i didnt have to go through that process.
well right now, i'm d/l a rapidshare file, after it gets d/led, i'll re-install the Onboard LAN. (btw, Vista itself installed this LAN card's drivers (Intel Gigabit LAN)
----------
whats this?

I am also happy to hear it. I hope my little help proved helpful for u
BTW 6to4 is a IPv6-to-IPv4 conversion layer very closely related to ISATAP. If you are not using IPv6 communications across IPv4 routers, you do
not need 6to4 enabled. You can safely ignore the error messages there.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
-------------------edit 2-------------
time-10.28am
now, this problem doesnt occur on laptop
i tried to open rapidshare (rs) page simultaneously (laptop & desktop) & its now confirmed that something's wrong in Desktop & not in router config., as the rs page opened on laptop, while on desktop it did after that procedure.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
There would be some problem with the DHCP. Enable it on the router page. Then in the Broadband properties from N&S Center go to Networking Tab and select IPv4. Click properties and then under the general tab, select 'Obtain an IP address automatically'. You can also select 'Obtain a DNS server address automatically'.
Restart the connection and check if the problem resolves.

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem

this is the diagnostics result (Intel Pro advanced tools)
i left the N&S settings to default, i.e 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected.
to me, the router config seems ok, as i'm not facing any prblm thru laptop.
DHCP Server is enabled.
Enable DHCP Server
Start IP Address: 192.168.1.2
End IP Address: 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Re: Wierd Internet Connection Problem
Go to Broadband > Properties > Networking > IPv4 Properties > Advanced > WINS
Check if the WINS panel has any address in it. Also check and select NetBIOS over TCP/IP as disabled in the WINS option.
Install the newest available driver from the vendor's site and reconnect to see what happens.
