If that's the case, then it means that there are some process running in background all the time utilizing CPU and memory. There are many reasons for it. It may be due to malware infection. Run HijackThis on your computer and post the result here for analysis.

There are no problems in the report. But I suggest the following removal from start-up entries:
C:\Program Files\PowerISO\PWRISOVM.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\VM_STI.EXE
C:\PROGRA~1\WINZIP\winzip32.exe
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ymsgr_tray.exe
C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

All these process doesn't need to start automatically. They can be started manually when needed. This will optimize startup time.

You are using a resource hog Norton Antivirus. Which version is it? Also let me know ur system memory and processor.
