Can I download the latest software to Restore ipod?

My friend has recently brought iPod Nano the older one which doesnt play Video. I wish to restore it but whenever I connect the iPod to iTunes to restore it tries to connect to the server to restore but losses the connection in meanwhile. Hence I'm unable to restore it. I have searched in google but I didn't find any latest software which I can download and restore rather than restoring it by connecting to internet using iTunes. I have the iPod CD but it has very older version of the iPod software. Has Apple stopped providing the software to restore for download? Please help!

I tried to restore the iPod using iTunes but it's failing to do so. It tries to connect to restore but eventually fails. How can I restore the iPod? I tried restoring using the CD that comes with the the iPod. But thats not working either. Can I just format the iPod as we do for a USB stick? I heard formatting isn't good. Please help.

Try restoring in from another computer. I had problem restoring my ipod from my laptop so I restored it from my PC and it worked.

The problem is the iPod has a virus so I dont want that to get infected in another computers. It already infected my PC. So I dont want to take chances.

select the model and try also if u can go into the recovery mode and then connect to pc and tehn update through itunes
