reg startups: disable all EXCEPT your antivirus.

ctfmon is a part of Windows XP also and it runs if Advance Text Services are on in 'regional and language options' (in vista, on Xp its in a diff cpl that i dont remember) control panel. In Win98 it was used to install with Office Xp. To turn it off, simple go to the appropriate applet and on the last tab, uncheck turn on advance text services. It'll be gone automatically.

1) remove wallpaper from desktop.
2) Remove all external devices like printer, scanner, pen drive, digicam
3) start -->> control panel-->> sound and audio devices -->> sounds -->> from sound scheme options select No sound -->>Apply -->> ok

This can help you.

Disabling ctfmon wont help much in reducing the startup time.

Try defragmenting your drives. Even if that doesn't help as a last resort reinstall your OS.

C drive can get fragmented !!
first use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) to remove unnecessary, temp files etc. then defragment ur C drive....
if nothing helps, format ur C:
