Default norton systemworks main page does not load

Hi All

i have AMD 2400+ with ASUS motherboard. i am using Windows XP Professional edition with Service Pack 2. i have installed Norton Systemworks2005 on my computer. i regularly update it from the Net using LiveUpdate.

two days back when i try to open main page of Systemworks2005, ther comes an error "Too big to fit in the memory"
however the scanning and all other things goes well only the main window does not open.

i also have Norton Personal Firewall2003 installed, same error inherit in itself also.

i have 256MB RAM.
i try to reinstall Sysemworks, but the error continues.

Please tell me the reason of this error and the method to rectify it.

thanx
Amit

Yeah norton 2005 takes a huge amount of memory!

It may be a virus but since u got updated so virus is ruled out!
I think its some problem in configuration, coz it has happened with me with 2003 version on WIn 98!

So i suggest u
1 .uninstall it completely using some good removal tool like "addremoveforgood" program
and remove the left over material using "erasebeyondrecovery"!
2. go to administrator mode and do a clean install !

dat should solve ur problem!

If u donno how to do a clean install ! Then i suggest u google a bit with input string "clean install" or "How to do clean install"!

Clean brings OS to a state where it was initially when installed (temporarily)
and when u finished install it reverts back with fresh changes!

Default Norton Problem

the solution u give seems better, but there is a problem with it.
i have updated all the product components using live update. uninstalling will remove those updates also, and i don't have internet acess now.
is there any solution to this problem.

do scan ur pc with these utilities:-
SpyBot SnD
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

AdAware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

and after these scans post the log file of HijackThis....

get the latest version of HIJACKTHIS and run it.. and paste the log file [url]

Give that Norton thingy a kick in the butt and start using System Mechanic or Tune Up Utilities

All right u dont have internet now!

NOw dont say u dont even have cd writer or a usb stick (pen drive)!
If u dont then atleast buy a usb stick 128 mb or more!

Now all u gotta do is -> back up the folder that stores the virus definitions
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs

and when ur all done after all the install work just replace the virusdefs folder with the backed up one

Default reply updating norton definition offline

this thing doesn't work. it will update the definition file. but if i try to update from the net in future, it will download the whole 7MB file.

other thing, the solution u provide me did well with virus definition, but what about other updates.

waiting for the solution.

Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Then run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and saves the log file as hijackthis.log in the same folder where it is installed and it also opens the file automatically.
Copy the entire contents of the file and post it this Section.

What other updates? Plz mention!
If u r talkin about norton updates then they will continue in usual manner!
And no need to worry if u did replace ur newly installed NAV with backed up virus defs it wont do 7MB install, but yeah it'll continue to update new definitions from net!

Ok if ur talkin about other NAV component updates, then dont bother about those they r optional, what really matters it virus defs !
And NAV worm defs doesnt concern me as i use spy sweeper for that on gaurd!
But atleast the solution i provided solves ur main window not loadin problem. Just see for the brighter side!
And one thing more dont try to update NAV 2005 with optional components too much as it'll utilize ur memory more than ever with more services as background processes, just keep updating virus defs and worm defs!

One thing more, if u really wanna make ur PC infection free then i suggest that u

1.configure ur NAV with bloodhound with highest level of protetcion
2. install spyware removal with onguard with spy sweeper and do manual sweeping with dis with addition to microsoft antispyware
3.Install firewall like zonealarm!!

This is the best combination i found so far!!
