Red face Pen drive wrought havoc

Hey friends a weirdo problem here. I have a Toshiba Pen-Drive which I bought from ebay. The problem is that many a times the data in the pen drive is corrupted. For instance, I copy a working .avi or .mov file to the pendrive. When I try to play to play it from the pendrive the media player classic(K-Lite Mega Codec Pack) says cannot render file. So say I copy 10 avi files. Out of them a few may play and many don't play at all. Take some data for instance. I create a folder in the pen drive and then add some exe files(softwares) in it. When I open it after safely removing and re-attatching the pendrive the softwares cannot be opened and they have some funny names in boxes(squares). You may think that it is an virus attack on the pen drive, but I have formatted it numerous times and scanned it too. This problem is not only with my PC, I have even tried it another computer but same result. So friends what could be the prob or should I get it replaced. The pen drive is of 8GB make.

Please go to the pen drive manufacturers web sites, there might be some repair utility. Download the utility as per model of the pen drive and try to repair with that utility, I think problem will be solved.

me too had a similar problem with Kingston USB.. n off late it stopped . I had dipped it unknowingly in water then. the squares u mentioned, few Kb file size showed into GB'S when checked in their properties, notepad files show scrambled text etc were the few probs.

And strangely i found that files won't get corrupted by compressing them into a single zip file n also by not filling the pendrive to it's maximum storage capacity. In your case were there any chance for the presence of moisture?

Hey could this be the reason. I had my pen drive inserted in the hub, when I formatted my windows drive and installed XP again. Could the loss of Hub drivers caused it to malfunction
