For defragmenting in vista I suggest you use the latest version of power defragmenter.I use it to defrag my game files.
Google to download power defragmenter.
Its a gr8 freeware tool and certainly better than windows Vista's own inbuilt defragmenter.
Check to see if indexing service is on or not.If its on then turn it off.

Why Not !!! You may use it just like Windows XP, as like all other tool vista has little different user interface than windows xp...

Right Click on any drive at My computer go to, the Tools TAB and click defrag now

IT will launch the in built utility there click defrag now

now it should give option to chose which drive you want to defrag, chose which u like and click OK

Vista inbuilt tool will now start defraging the drive you have selected depending on the size and file system, it may take few hours to complete the process

Few quick TIPs
  • You will need admin access to run the tool...
  • Disable the Real time protectioon of any AVS you are running it helps to reduce the time
  • Try Defraggler nifty little tool but does a real good job

So much data it will take a lot... so better defrag it as night when computer runs and u go to sleep

moving 700MB or 1400 MB movie files takes a lot of time..

Windows Defragmenter isnt very thorough ; hence it should be done pretty fast. NTFS defragmenting is fast anyway.
It shouldnt take more than an hour.
