+ (not positive) effects on My computer! Plz Help

Wherever, the computer senses a text field, it starts filling it up with + (plus sign).

It starts right from when i start typing my Xp user login paswd.
then if i try renaming a folder before i type its filled with +++++++

In opera + sign causes magnification (if i have not clicked on any text area insde its window). Hence I end up with my opera window enlarged to 1000% !

Why and from where is this auto unwanted irritating + menace coming from ?
Can anyone help me out?

I have Avast Home (updated), Spybot and Comodo Firewall.
Is it a hardware problem or my Xp Sp2 has gone nuts or some illegal intrusion/attack!

Plz Help! Its incapacitating my desktop!

Are you sure the "+" key in your keyboard is not pressed?

The key is not pressed. i mean it doesnt look to be jammed. but i ll consider it. lemme check it inside.

before re-installing ur OS i would suggest u try another keyboard

Yes it looks to be because of your faulty keyboard. Try to remove it's buttons and clean for stagnated particles which may have been causing the short connections.

thanks vishal gupta! it seems my numeric keypad's + is the culprit.

i found that this + effect begins when i have pressed the + button. it has become extremely sensitive to touch. which i think means the gap between the circuit and button has reduced very much causing such erratic functioning. hence the button might not be able to come up completely. also it seems to stop when i manually try to pull it up. (visually still the button doesnt seem to be jammed/pressed)

lemme check my friend's keyboard on my desktop.
(it seems the time has come to replace the keyboard!)

thanks for all the replies. i will first check my keyboard on friends comp and his keyboard on mine!

still futile then i ll check it on ubuntu. (if problem still exists, it means hardware failure)

else OS reinstall.
