Default how to recover space in harddisk?


i have a 120 gb hrddisk......however only 100 gb is available....how to recover the remaining 20 gb?

Listen, every hardware manufacture requires some space on the hard disk itself for firmwares. That's why that 20 GB space is filled up.

If that is not the cause then try to format the whole drive using GParted and check the total space available.

Hardware manufacturers consider 1KB as equivalent to 1000 B while all softwares including OS like Windows consider it equal to 1024B. That's why Windows report 120GB as claimed by manufacturer as 111.2GB.
You can check this on each and every computer you have access to and you will find that its the same for each. A 40GB hard disk would have a space of around 37.23GB, a 80GB would have a little above 73 GB and so on.
