Default Defragmenting drive and then reinstall WINXP

Does defragmenting the system drive(ie: where windows in installed) and then reinstalling the windows makes the defragmentation useless or it still be defragmented

generally OS is installed with disk format...
so. disk defragment does not make sense. If you want to do special care..than do slow format during OS reinstalltion process.

As Windows is generally installed after a Disk Format, so defragmenting before the Format is just a waste of time as you are clearing your data with a Format. But for sure defragmenting after installing Windows will increase your performance.
