downloaded icons but dont know how to use it .

Hi I have downloaded a set of icons which are both in .ico and png type. but how to replace the original windows icon with these icons ?

from control pannel or windows explorer, go to folder options and go to file types. there, clicking on a file extention, you can use the on-screen options to change the icon. You can also do this via the regestry editor. All you need to do is to find the extention and change the icon path. The PNG files are useless on windows. They are only for the UNIXes.

Or you could use IconTweaker to apply them.
Using the option MetalHeadGautham suggested,you can only change file icons.
IconTweaker is similar to IconPackager , but freeware.

not exactly. you can even change some other icons, but you need to hack around with regedit. All the dangers associated with it are known, so be careful.

PS: I am a bit rusty on windows, because I forgot all about it since moving to Linux.
Can someone please confirm my instructions?
