Default CD-RW doesn't get detected and long xp pro start up time!

Recently I installed a new driver for my LG GCE-8526B and after installing both my drives, i.e. one LG DVD ROM and this CD-RW drive got disappeared and even after restart they didn't appear. After system restore the DVD-ROM is back but, the CD-RW is still out of order. Even, in the BIOS I can't see it.

And I am getting long startup for windows xp. it takes about 4-5 minutes to start, during which I see the windows logo and scrolling little bar. Earlier it didn't even start if left for half an hour. I changed the Serial Cable and somehow it starts now in 4-5 minutes. I feel there is some problem with my HDD, is it so? I intend to buy new hdd therefore!

Please soembody help me in both cases!

Thanks.

This arises if additional software has gone missing - usually that from a CD burning program that has been uninstalled, but let pointers to it in the registry. Get a registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip and merge it into the registry and reboot - you should then find the drives and will need to reinstall whatever CD burning package you wish to use.
i found this frm another forum ... c if this helps

I had similar problem on Win2000: after install NERO 5.5 Packet Writer (Samsung-only edition) my CD-R/W device went to code-31 (Windows has disabled). I searched the web & found out from http://www.hauppauge.com/html/pvrfaq.htm that there are 2 reg keys that screw the device, I removed them both and re-scaned for PnP (or rebooted) after removing the device & all was well. The keys are: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters".

Good luck.

Editing registry, gives me creepy feeling this time. Can anybody please gimme a sure shot tested method. My burning program i.e. nero isn't got uninstalled. I uninstalled it later when, my cd-rw got disappeared! If I use new hard disk and fresh intallation will my cd-rw come back?

While even after disk cleanup, the prob doesn't seem to resolve abt. the long startup.

ok, I have been able to resolve startup time issue. The culprit was the cd-rw prob only. If I plugged power cable on both removable drives, i.e. dvd rom and cd rw then the startup time was long if I used any one of 'em it is ok. So, as I unable to re-install cd-rw drive, I've removed cd-rw power cable.

Also, the bios takes quite some time to detect the dvd-rom drive this time.

Now, can anybody help me in re-installing the cd-rw drive and the new problem??

Will, removing and replacing the serial cables would affect?

I can't just pull 'em out, so, now should I have to call the hardware guy?

Anybody?
