Question boot.ini problem

Hi,

I had earlier installed Red hat linux. Due to some dual boot problem I did a fixmbr and fixboot for windows.

My windows is installed on G: and I think I gave I: for the MBR.

Windows boots properly. The only problem is I get this error while trying to make any changes

I am also unable to locate my boot.ini file. I have tried the show hidden system files and folder. Ofcourse the file must be there but how do I find it and edit the location to its right place ?

note: C: has been formatted and is a new partition.

Uncheck the "Hide Protected Operating System Files" form folder options which is located just little below the hide files option.
Save Changes.
Goto the drive where you have installed Windows like C:\
The boot.ini file will be located there and you can make changes there.

No...mvidia u dont understand my problem. When i gave a fixmbr and a fixboot for XP, linux was installed on C:. I had given I: as location for MBR when giving the command. Yes i had unchecked "Hide Protected Operating System Files". But still its not there on I:.

The option thats left now to me is again give a fixmbr.

"Boot.ini" file is always stored in "C:\" drive root. So enable "Show hidden files" option and disable "Hide protected files" option and then check again in "C:\" drive. You'll get it.

Here is a complex way to edit boot.ini

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-or-
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
3. Under System Startup, click Edit.

Look at the screenshot atleast. He is trying the same way you said

Pramod brother... Try this... The Boot.ini files always exist in C: drive. Do as Vishal bhai said... if still cant find it... Search your whole system for boot.ini file (Start Menu/search). Without this file system cant boot...So this must exist.
