Altering image in notepad

hi guys,
i tried to fiddle with the images by altering them in notepad.but could not open the file once it was altered even when i replaced the altered characters with the original ones(i had a back up copy).is there some way that i can fiddle aound or change charactes of images or videos and 'get away'?

Um, afaik an image file is stored in binary which the awesome notepad.exe doesn't interpret in. You can perhaps try opening the file in a program as binary and play around, but its all compressed stuff you'll make no sense out of, unless you decompress and work on that instead.

the image file have headers etc for knowing type of image,size,date of creation and some othr stuffs ,altering taht will make it not openable

wordpad is of no help either.Anyway can i fiddle around with openig and writing with c?

A hex editor may also do the job as pramodv1988 suggests. But why do you wish to do this insane task?

P.s. There are binary text editors available too, search and get them.
