Question trouble with dual boot

hello frnds,
I'm having a dual boot machine with Win-2000 and Linux ...now my problem is i want to format Linux but i'm confused ....how can i do it i mean

If i go for deletion of Linux partition by Partition magic software then my grub will be lost tooo and my system will go down ....and there is no chance i can format Linux with saving my Grub ....and the bigger problem is I don't have Win 2000 CD through which i can save my win2000 partiton , and my system can't handle Win-XP .....

So plz help me !!

Default Re: trouble with dual boot

Do u have the linux installation in a primary and bootable partition, then deleting the partition will destroy the 'ntldr' i.e. the boot loader.

Get urself a floppy disk and format it. When formatting, select Create an MS-DOS startup disk in the checkbox. Then format the floppy.

Reboot the PC and check if booting from the floppy can be done. Then format the linux drive. Reboot from the floppy. Enter command
Code:
fixmbr
and press enter. The boot sector should be repaired. Try booting the PC. If nothing happens or PC is saying bootloader is missing, then reboot from floopy and enter
Code:
fixboot
it should fix the whole thing then.
