Default Dual Boot - Vista Vs XP

guys i am yet in another problem.... i have dual boot with vista n xp. Ghost images kept safely for both in a third drive. Had a problem with vista so did a image restore of vista(C:/). but now the boot options does show the "Earlier version of Windows" for xp but on clicking it nothing happens and the screen just remains blank with power on and hdd idle.

1. i got both os installed after a herculean task of searching in the forum and using the method of shantanu in the post dated 28-07-2007.
1. The images of vista and xp were made by me so that i dont have to go thru a lengthy process of going to command prompt and etc etc again.
3. But today when restored using ghost, vista runs but nothing happens to xp(All Xp files are intact in D).
4. i also tried to use the vista boot pro 3.3 but i am not very clear what to do as i ended up screwing up the vista also and since morning i have restored my vista 5 times......

Default Re: Dual Boot - Vista Vs XP

thanks imav for the help. Though i found the solution on my own. actually my laptop has two primary partitions(i dont know how but as shown in comp management) and the second one was inaccesable as it had lenovo restore files. I had made the image when this second partition was inaccessable. but soon i formatted it and started using it.
now becoz of this the line in restored boot.ini had this entry

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

now this 2 had to be replaced by 3. thats all.

woh kahte hain na.... hathoda chalana to sabko aata hai par marna kahan hai ye jise pata hota hai use hee engineer kahte hain.

so it took me a lot of time to find out the cause of the problem
