How to partition a new Hard disk...

Hello friends,
Recently I have bought a 120GB external hard disk... It has a single partition 120GB... How to partition that hard disk?

I am using Windows XP SP2....

Partiton using Wndows inbuilt disk management tool.
Or you can use software like G-parted.

Rt click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'.....Now select 'Disk Management'.....u can partion ur disk from here.

get hold of a partitioning software like Partition magic ............it has a very easy to use interface ......right click on the c drive ..there will be option of "resize partition" ........and rest is easy......


and u cant make new partition from a single partition (if u have os installed in it) by using disk management feature of XP. But if u have your installed in a separate hard disk .... then ..
1. Right Click on my computer and click on "Manage"
2. Click Disk Management under the Storage Heading.
3. Right Click on ur new drive partition and "delete Partition"
4. Create a new partition as Primary partition (space u can decide ur depending on ur needs) and format it.
5. Create another partition as Secondary partition taking up the all the space left )
6. Creating as many partition as u wish, as logical partition in the secondary partition space and dnt frget to format them.
7. Mission Accomplished ..........wat else now ?

Install the HDD as a secondary one.
Boot XP & then partition using inbuilt disk management tool.

if ur mobo supports, boot into dos using 98 startup disk and thn use FDISK cmmand

or else use respective Disk Managers........
