goto www.hp.com and search for your laptop model no.
Also you might need Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver for windows xp to identify your sata harddisk. These drivers are available in hp site.
use gparted live cd and boot from it(make sure your pc iis set to boot from cd drive)
@azzu : Vista is crap, more and more users are switching back to XP after a bad xperince with Vista. I know its eye candy but the negatives outweighs the positives.

i suggest u create a set of recovery disks using hp recovery before trying any of the steps...
