Default Isn't Gmail a little too slow?

Whenever i try to upload any file in gmail it takes much longer than yahoo or rediffmail. Why is this so? Can it be corrected? I have seen this happens everytime.

I use dataone 2MBPS connection. I am talking especially about the upload speed. Try it and tell. The account also takes a little longer to load.

And i am on linux so can only use thunderbird.

Yah, file uploading is very slow in Gmail.
Use the plain html version or yahoo or the new zapakmail if you want to upload anything.

Well Yahoo New Beta / Gmail / New Hotmail / all these new Ajax based one will take time to load as they load a lot of infomation to start with which gives a really faster interface after its loaded...

where as traditional Interface of Yahoo was faster !!!

Attaching is faster in Rediffmail

Workaround:
Gmail allows pop3 access for free! So use an email client
Opera users - Opera has an email client builtin(M2), u can configure Opera to download and send your mail. Goto tools menu > mail and chat accounts. Its pretty simple from then on.

Firefox users - i think there is an extension that allows u to compose your messges without going to gmail.com. Or just use thunderbird.
