What do you mean by Compact file format ?? do you wish to rip and encode them to 700 MB xvid or divx (.avi) DVD RIPs ??

if yes, then you may use AutoGK for the purpose... gives a great result and its free, try here, http://www.chotocheeta.com/2007/08/2...-2-cd-dvd-rip/

You can also try Nero Recode to convert them to mp4 files if you have any version of nero installed. It is faster than divx/xvid conversion.

no i am recording some files in dvd format but i want to store videos i recorded on dvds for later watching after editing the part i dont want.

also when watching on tv i can view them in vcd format also so i want them to store more videos on dvd in dvd or cd quality .

in short i want software to edit vob files and save them in vob or dat or avi (divx/xvid) . if i can put more on dvd without much loss in quality then also no problem.

Ok recording from tv is of DVD or VCD quality. maybe VCD quality

Home use I would say Software Ulead Video Studio or Pinnacle Studio ... even I guess our very own Windows Movie Maker too can do this job ??

SUPER is almost like a standard software. Its FREE too...and it runs on reliable progs like ffmpeg, mencoder etc...

I say just use the mp4 container with the H.264 codec, set your resolution to 352x288 (I'm guessing you have a CIF rez phone or PMP) and just drag and drop your files.

SUPER, along with access to my University VPN & Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is the only reason I still have Windows on my laptop at all...

You can have MPEG-1 (VCD), MPEG-2 (DVD & SVCD) format and now a days many PVR's support Direct DivX recording. The format choice if yours.

That is correct Display And the file i am playing is Vob File.

Now see this if i play a xvid or divx file with same ratio (Resolution) the result is this on computer and also on DVD Recorder

When i converted DVD files to AVI the video is strecth very much .SEE ABOVE
WHY -
The video i Recorded is of 352 (height) X 576 (Width)
But when i convert it to 352 (height) X 288 (Width) then it is gives problem. I am not changing any ratio.

THe video which i have recorded is
Video : 16.81 MB, 2137 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 352*576 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD)

So i am just converting the video to Avi without changing any ratio.
DO tell why this is happening .

When i see the video on tv i see the video in square box instead of rectangle

WHY - 576 X 352 is correct resolution to watch
But when i watch same vob video it is playing correctly.

Even on pc 576 X 352 (avi,xvid,divx) is strecting very much .

d00d wen d vdo size is 576x352 it has an aspect ratio of 18:11

but now u are resizing it to 352x288, which means dat u r changing d aspect ration to 11:9

U HAVE INDEED CHANGED D ASPECT RATIO OF D VIDEO BY NOT MANTAINING D PROPORTION OF WIDTH TO HEIGHT

Quote:
The aspect ratio of an image is its displayed width divided by its height

SOURCE

with change in aspect ratio d vdo is going to streach differently

encode d vdo to a size of 360x220 and it will streach just like d original vob

Thanks for the help but i have recorded video in 352 X 576 Ratio
If i convert to 220 then the quality will be degrade right.

No i was talking of original recording, Dvd recoreder recorded at 352 X 576 Resolution.

When i play xvid file it dont display correcly even divx file dont
but if i play vob file it has no problem with same ratio used for xvid and divx

d00d lets get 1 thin clear

width=horizontal length

height=verticle length

for noraml monitors aspect ratio is always widthxheight

d first screenshot dat u posted has a width>height

so d aspect ratio cannot b 352x576

it is in all likelyhood 576x352 (width greater than height)

so i suggest dat whil encoding this particular VOB u set d vdo size as 576x352 (keep width more than height)

VIDEO RECORDING QUALITY
Mode Time Bit Rate Encode NTSC PAL/SECAM
HQ 1hr 9.5Mpbs MPEG2 720X480 720X576
SP 2hrs 5.1Mpbs MPEG2 720X480 720X576
LP 3hrs 3.3Mpbs MPEG2 352X480 352X576
EP 4hrs 2.5Mpbs MPEG2 352X480 352X576
SLP 6hrs 1.7Mpbs MPEG1 352X240 352X288

I choosen - EP 4hrs 2.5Mpbs MPEG2 352X480 352X576
So width is 352 and height is 576 .

Tell me best setting so that i can have original quality with Xvid codec.
If i convert 352 Width to 576 or 640 will it degrade the video.

I want to know best ratio of video so i can convert it without loosing quality .
The video is approx 2140 Kbps

d00d if u notcie, the first screenshot that you have posted, saying it is the original, has a width which is more than the height

whereas when u choose 352X576 the width becomes less than the height, so obviously d video will streach unnaturally

i dont know wat is d aspect ration of d original VOB file, but i suggest dat while encoding the Vob into AVI use an aspect ratio where the width is more than the height

well it seems that u seem to b confused between Aspect Ratio and Bitrate

the Aspect Ratio will determine how ur Video will appear on the monitor
if a video file with aspect ratio of 16:9 is viewed on a monitor with aspect ratio of 4:3 it there will b black strips on top and bottom of the monitor,
it has nothin to do with the quality of the video, wheras is u wach it on a widescreen monitor d black strips will dissappear

wat u r asking for when u talk about qlty of video is essentially d encoded bitrate

wen u said

u r basically tellin me dat the video file has been encoded @ a bitrate of 2140kbps

to have as close to to d origianal vieo as possible you could encode it at a bitrate of anythin between 800-1200kbps with two passes of encodin

depending on d software u use der will b other parameters dat u can tweak, but d above two are the single biggest facters which detrmine how good the encoded video will b - encoded bitrate and number of passes made while encodin
