Default Windows XP installation error

I tried to install Windows XP SP-2 on a Dell Optiplex GX110(P3,733MHz,System chip set Intel 810e,128MB(100Mhz),30GB), which was preveously running on 98SE. I formatted the HDD, everything went smooth upto the file copy. After the rebooting instruction appears as usual...Press any key to boot from CD. But soon it shows Disk error, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. This process continues as before. I tried to change BIOS after copying files to boot from HDD but it gave an error message that Disk error, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart. I checked the cables & HDD with another Machine and found ok.I upgraded the BIOS Version from A02 to A09 but to no result. There is no bulging of Capacitors on the Mother board.
There is no DOS prompt while booting from a Bootable 98 CD also.
Can anybody suggest me what is the problem and how to solve the problem

no need to worry suniltr, follow these steps:
1. Make first boot device as cd-rom in bios before inserting your xp cd
2. Now save changes to bios and insert your xp cd and press ENTER when "press any key to boot from cd" msg appears, here after some time it will shows all the partitions or only one partition of 30 gb for you, here you format all the partitions
3. Now create a seperate partitions as per you r wish and format c: with NTFS (not quick)
4. After copying files it will ask to restart here after restart "press any key to boot from cd" comes, here you dont do anything leave unpressed
5. If at the next step "disk error" comes, then it is the exact problem with your xp cd,if not your hard disk may be the culprit with bad sectors,
If all the above steps failed
6. Try to install xp in u r system by keeping your hard disk in one of your's friend system whose having same board specifications

you are not telling clearly what msg popped up for in your system when trying to install XP,and disc error msg came for you because your hard disk OS is not taken by your board because your friend's system board specifications are not identical(but you can see xp in his system but in not your's) it was clearly visible from this error, first tell what error came in your system than i can help you

Of Course You R right that board was not identical but was a 835 /845 board. My aim was to check that HD is O.K.When I try to install XP in my system it would start with welcome screen as usual-checking the configuration-EULA-F8-format option-location for installation-O.K.-copying the required files -100%-Rebooting in 15 sec.-Boots-Press any key to boot from CD-no response from me-message"A disc read error occoured" press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
