Default BIOS boot up problem

I have a boot up(Bios) problem in Windows XP/Mercury MB.
I am not able to save the bios settings.
I have to change the "Advanced CMOS" settings whenever I boot freshly(not when restarting Windows).
When I switch on freshly, system is not booting. I manually switch it off and started
again pressing the DEL key.
It is showing the message.
1. Go to setup
2. F1 to change bios settings.
3. F2 to continue with default settings.
I have to press F1 and change the boot sequence as
Quick boot: Disabled
1st boot : IDE0
2nd boot : IDE0
3rd boot : Disabled
Try Other boot devices : No
This is the boot sequence I want.
Now i can save it and can go to windows destop smoothly.
problem is that after shutting down the comp and switching on the system, the system is not at all booting. Hard disk red light is on.
Bios settings are in default settings.
Which is the thing I don't want.
My changed settings (mentioned above) are gone.
I changed the CMOS battery[new one 3v checked] and tried.
Problem still persists.

Can u please help me.Vinod

Post Re: BIOS boot up problem

How old is ur com ?... If its too old then nothing can be done.

Check out whether ur using original CMOS battery, that also matters... as duplicate batteries r useless even if u use new one(duplicate once r chinese products see that ur buyin a original branded cell).

their is no need to keep same device to check twice during boot up...

in ur bios choose "Load Optimised Settings" & press F10 and save the settings.

yeah it's either the battery or a jumper on the mobo, some newer boards have a jumper so that the BIOS is always set at factory defaults (kind of like a extra security feature) Had that on my new acer computer same prob as you until I found this stupid jumper.

just check the mobo jumper it is proper or not, just beside the cmos battery..
