Where is "Open"?
I cannot open any file in my system.
Open is NOwhere in the context menu.
When I right-click on a file, it shows:
Pin to Start Menu
Send to
Cut
Copy
Create Shortcut
Delete
Rename
Properties
I even could'nt open Paint, to make a Screenshot of the Problem!
How Can it be solved?

Re: Where is "Open"?
CTRL+O Open an item
run sfc /scannow. if still not working PM/or wait for Mr. Vista (Vishal Gupta). He's the registry God!

Re: Where is "Open"?
If I'm correct then its happening bcoz of some other program's context menu entry, which is causing this problem. We can check it.
Open regedit and goto following keys one by one:
Code:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex
Now rename " shellex" key to "shellex2" or any other name in both above mentioned keys.
Now again check the right-click options in any file and tell me whether it works or not.

But how can I open the registry Editor ? When I try to open "regedit", it says, "Windows cannot open this file----Open with----Use the web service to find"!

Are the file associations gone? you can repair(to default) it by downloading and running this: Download .
But you are unable to open the registry, so this may not work , but give it a try. Or you can repair the windows installation by using your windows installation CD.
Have you tried safe mode yet?

Re: Where is "Open"?
only thing that will surely work is to repair your windows installation using the windows cd.

Re: Where is "Open"?
I created a BAT file in Windows\system32\restore\ having text:
rstrui.exe
I ran it, and System restore opened.
Then i restored my system to an earlier date.
