how to create partition in vista?

i bought a laptop which has 2 partition 140gb n 8gb(back up drive)
i want 2 partition de 140gb drive n install Xp on it, i used acronics partition expert but it did not work.
please help

does vista have a default soft 4 partitioning??? i want a fully safe way 2 go through de process.

no need to download any software....just go to the disk management and right click the volume.....then press 'shrink the volume'....you are asked for the space you want to allocate as free space.....ok

i did this, but now there is another problem my 140 GB partition in which vista is installed did not let me reduce de partition less than 72 GB, although more than 110 GB is free.
it said shrinking was not further possible due 2 space reserved 4 page file

is the page file so big???

page file isn't dat big,
it depends on how much space has been allocated 2 page files
just check it out

in win2003 dis is d path, shud b same in xp also
system->advanced->Performance->Advanced->change
