Help!!!Black Screen Of Death.my p.c says "Reboot and select proper boot device......

hi people i am facing what can be called as Black Screen Of Death.
when i start my copm i get a black screen with the error message -
" Reboot and select proper boot device.
or Inset boot media in selected boot device."
what is this???
is it a virus???

HDD is detected In BIOS? what was the last thing you did b4 u got this? add/remov any hdware/software, palying game? stricking f8 doesn't get you to slect safemode?

try 'last known good congif' or a system restore firts. it if dznt help, u may have to post the error code here, pls. c this too

refresh ur cmos n load default config in bios. then change booting priority set hdd0 as 1st boot device.

i haver heard os blue scren of death in windows
and red screen of death in linux

but never heard black screen of death


anyways

check power cable of hdd
i had similar prob
switching power cables did the job

happens when the comp locks up while in windows and you manually shut system down. when u boot up you will get that error " Reboot and select proper boot device. or Inset boot media in selected boot device." could also get it after installing new HW/software.

does safe mode work for u ? if it does, go to ur antivirus and check for any viruses

his hdd is not getting detected how do expect him to start os in safe mode

goto BIOS, change the HDD interface to IDE.

check if the data cables are connected properly.If the HDD is not detected in the BIOS, the most probably the data cable is not corrected properly.
