Default Norton 2003 Trouble

My Norton Internet 2003 failed to load recently.
Since then I could neither install nor de-install the product.
Now other Antivirus like Trend Micro fails to install indicating presence of Norton. As a last option I am going to format and reinstall XP.
However just wanted to know if there's any workaround.

Thanks,

thumb rule with norton ..use the removal tool and then do fresh product installation..other wise the above problem always arises !

is it NIS or NIS? go to www.symantec.com/autotools, if it is NIS then u need 1, if it is NAV u need 4... then check my post http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/show...31&postcount=7 to remove major traces left behind that trend micro has problems with. Honestly I wouldn't install trend micro, would rather have norton (even though I hate Norton with a passion) every one here seems to like kaspery DO a search for AV (Please oh please don't start another thread about which AV is best)
