Default Access denied??


Hi,

I have installed windows Xp service pack 2 on my system after formating my c drive.

Now when i connect my external HDD(300GB) its get dtected but whn i try to access d same its gives access denied...even while copying something to disk...


Samthing happens with my d and e drive??

please give me some solutions....is that a virus?? i have net ..

wat may be the problem??

this may be a virus.
Is your external drive NTFS formated.If yes..than you need to take ownership of that derive.Here is how you should do:

Hey thnks ravi,

I know this up to some extent...but all of my drives has FAT File system.

may be i need to find out wats is the file system of external drive.??

check the file system of all the drives that u already have then check if the external hdd's driver is istalled if any needed !

and yeah if your Mother board is supporting a 300gb hdd !! via usb

is der anyy relation of mobo andexternal hdd its same as external drive ..

dear the thing is sometimes these drives go crazy .. what you do check if you have usb2.0 or not and also use a good AV scanner to bugg off tht pesky virus if u have any

hey i have chked all my drives are FAT 32,,,,even the external drive is FAT 32..

when i try to access its access denied...and its not in anee netwok..its a standalone system...so i chked for security chks n all...but thats not problem at all...

when i click explore drive its accesses...when i double click the same...it gives access denied..

Now..When i installed winxp sp2...Its working fine...after that i installed Norton internet security2005... which i had on my cd...then after installation gives trojan ...in c:/and e: and d:///and delted some files...

may be this is a problem...wats say dost...but installing again and again...is a problem..

It was a virus infection. U get 2 "Open" options in drive context menu. One is default and other is added by virus.
When u double-click on a drive, it gives message "Access is denied" but if u right-click on the drive u'll see 2 "Open" options and the second one in list will work fine.

I have avast antivirus,...updated version...

but it dont detectes aneeone...it says system is ok..

and my system is damn slow while copying n all..it had 256MB DDR 400Mhz RAM,, Asus A8nVM board with AMDathlon 3000+ processor...I thought it is a good config for home...but too slow..

please guide me something...
