is there any freeware software for converting video files of different formats (specifically AVI and MOV) to DVD, VCD, SVCD etc. i searched but could not find many useful softwares.

WinAVI is not free but still is good, though it occupies a lot of resources.

@ Slugger after adding the video file i cant find anything to start encoding. Can u tell me how to start the encoding process?

after u've added d file 2 b encoded and selected d codecs and other a/v options, u must click on d

Encode (Active Files) button

Then the encoding starts with the progress bar appering in the window itself

d rig im using 2 post dis message does not have dat installed

follow my instructions, if u still face rpoblems just post it and i'll give the exact procedure tommorow [when i use my own comp]

There is mencoder. But its CLI based. I tried converting a few files but they were bigger than the original file . Anyways, if you can read and understand the man page then mencoder is quite a powerful tool like its brother mplayer

In case you are fed up of reading the (very very) long man page of mencoder, you can copy some commands from the internet (search google, thats what I did) and use them to convert your file

Actually in their FAQ, they seem to have addressed ur problem

I am having problems installing SUPER © the installation stops progressing and gives an error.
